Lesson #20 – Putting it all Together
Focus: Putting it all together
10 minutes – Discussion Points/Important Questions:
What makes a perfect biathlete? Hard working, resilient, lots of things!
How do people get really good at biathlon? The work hard and they fail and they grow and they learn from their mistakes to get better.
How do we work to get better? Smart Practice!
What’s the difference between just practicing something vs. a Smart Practice? Smart practice is doing everything with a purpose, not just going through the motions.
15 minutes – Head Out to Range, Zero, Confirm and Start 10 Minute Warm-up
35 minutes – Combo Practice Working on Session Focus
What to look for: Athletes being efficient, athletes doing everything with a purpose.
25 minutes – 1 Skill/Drill Based on Focus: 10 Perfect 1-shots.
Focusing on perfect set-up, position, and process. If the shot is not perfect, reset and try again before taking it.
1 Game: Fumble
Pairs of 2. Athlete 1 gets into position to take 1 shot. As they get into position, their partner watches closely for any error. I.e. Bad position, clip not going in smoothly, arm cuff clip-in not smooth (for those who have it). If Athlete 1 does everything perfectly, they can take 1 shot. If Athlete 2 sees an error, they say “FUMBLE” and then the Athlete 1 cannot take their shot. Then they switch. IMPORTANT! They must safety the rifle after each shot – clip out, bolt open. They continue alternating until one person has hit 5/5.
