Lesson #1 Introduction/Safety

Focus: Introduction/Safety

10 minutes – Discussion Points/Important Questions
What is Biathlon? Show a video.   Example Video Ask about parts of the rifle, safety of the range, how to use the rifle.

15 minutes – Head Out to Range, Zero
Demo or have an athlete demo good position.
Have everyone dryfire to start – “What is Dryfiring and why we do it?”
Dryfiring is shooting without ammo. We do it to mentally warm up for shooting, practice extra shooting – especially where we don’t have a
range, to work on skills without spending ammo.
Explain Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo
Zero – What is a zero, why do we do it? We shoot 5 shots all on a target in order to see if our sights need to be centered on the target.
Confirm – What is a confirmation? Why do we do it? We go for a run/ski to raise our heart rates up, and then shoot to see if our grouping as moved.

35 minutes – Combo Practice Working on Session Focus
What to look for: General safety and new athletes who need more help.

25 minutes – 1 Skill/Drill Based on Focus
Skip for today – likely not enough time. Just let them practice shooting on metal.

1 Game: – Targets on Manual Mini Relay Race- Partner up. Each athlete can only take 1 shot at a time. Tag off at the fence or any pre-determined spot behind the shooting lane. Alternate until the first 3 teams have all 10 shots down on their 2 lanes.

Set-upEquipment Needed: 2 targets per lane for Z/C, tape + marker to mark rifles if needed, biathlon video
